Lyons High School 2008 All Class Reunion Report
The 2008 Lyons High School All Class Reunion was held June 1, 2008, at the Tri-Valley School gym with a potluck dinner. Honored classes were the students from 1932-33 for 75 years; 1947-48 for 60 years; and 1957-58 for 50 years.
Class roll call was taken with special recognition given to the honored classes. Twenty-nine classes were represented with 163 in attendance of which 116 were alumni. Orlando Fossum, Sioux Falls, was the only attendee from the class of 1932, celebrating 75 years. He shared his wit and humor with those in attendance. Those traveling the furthest were from all corners of the United States. Ron Clauson, class of 1958, came from Seminole, FL; Milton Woken, class of 1951, from Bakersfield, CA; and Lyle Frederickson, class of 1946, Anthem, AZ.
Following the meal, a representative from each class gave a report. Ila Ahrendt’s name was drawn as winner of the raffle, a bowl of her choice donated by Bill Tyler (1941). Volunteers were sought for the next all school reunion to be held in 2010. New members for the Reunion committee are Don and Marlene (Linge) Nelson (1961), Juanita (Cap) Geischer (1961), and Gordon Johnson (1962).
Before adjourning, Ruth Rehn was recognized for her 34 years with the South Dakota High School Activities Association. Ruth started girls’ athletics in South Dakota and brought programs to a level of equal status with boys’ programs in South Dakota.
Those in attendance enjoyed fellowship following the meeting.
